Short-Lived Celebrity Marriages: Stars Who Have Been Married For Less Than Four Years

There’s something about celebrities marrying one another that just seems like a bad idea, seeing as a union between two stars seems destined to fail, based on the number of failed celebrity marriages made public. Price and Andre were married three and a half years. Here are other short-lived celebrity marriages:

Pop Star Britney Spears and Jason Alexander’s Marriage

Singer Britney Spears had been friends with Jason Alexander since childhood. They became husband and wife after a trip to Las Vegas, where they wed on Jan. 3, 2004, in the Little White Wedding chapel, after having a few drinks in a hotel bar. A day later, though, their marriage — after 55 hours — was annulled. “I wanted to see what it was like being married,” Spears had reportedly said.

Actress Jennifer Garner and Actor Scott Foley’s Marriage

Actors Jennifer Garner and Scott Foley met on the set of the TV show Felicity in 1998, where she played his girlfriend. Soon, her on-screen role became a real-life role, and the two married in October 2000. However, it was all over more than two years later, when the couple separated. Rumours of their split revolved around their careers — hers was strengthening, as she was gaining film roles — while his seemed to have stalled.

Actress Drew Barrymore and Jeremy Thomas’ Marriage

Actress Drew Barrymore and bar owner Jeremy Thomas came from different worlds — she from a legendary Hollywood acting family and he from Wales — but they came together in wedlock on March 20, 1994. After knowing each other six weeks, they got married in his Los Angeles bar. She was 19, he was 32. “He’s the love of my life,” Barrymore declared. Their life together ended April 28 of the same year, when they divorced.

Actress Renee Zellweger and Singer Kenny Chesney’s Marriage

Actress Renee Zellweger and country crooner Kenny Chesney met at a benefit concert in January 2005. Fast forward four months, and they’re married. The couple said their “I do”s on a beach in the Virgin Islands, then decided they didn’t another four months later, when Zellweger filed papers in Los Angeles, seeking an annulment. She had cited “fraud” as the reason behind the split, but said it was just a technical term.

Actor Nicolas Cage and Lisa Marie Presley’s Marriage

Actor Nicolas Cage is reportedly a huge fan of legendary singer Elvis Presley, so it must have been a treat for him to have wed his daughter, Lisa Marie. She must have thought Cage was pretty special, too, as she married him in Hawaii on Aug. 10, 2002. Yet after 127 days, it was all over. “I’m sad about this but we shouldn’t have been married in the first place,” Presley said.

Actress Kate Walsh and Film Executive Alex Young’s Marriage

Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice star Kate Walsh had a whirlwind romance with movie executive Alex Young. The couple met in February 2007 and got engaged three months later. On Sept. 1, 2007, they tied the knot in the town of Ojai, Calif. Fifteen months into the union, however, Young filed for divorce, reportedly citing irreconcilable differences as the cause of the breakup. “The couple remain on friendly terms,” Walsh’s rep had said.

It’s rare for the public to see celebrity marriages go the distance, likely because the short-lived ones are those that make headlines. A marriage between two stars may crumble, based on previous breakups, as the result of marrying too quickly and not having known each other well enough, or one person being more successful than the other, thus bringing star egos into play.
